Individual Therapy

Assessment

Therapy starts with a comprehensive 90-minute evaluation, which includes a clinical interview and questionnaires to assess symptoms and establish an accurate diagnosis, helping to create an individualized treatment plan.

Planning

The results are used to design a treatment plan that incorporates proven strategies to reduce symptoms and maladaptive coping behaviors. We will also discuss both short-term and long-term goals to ensure we're aligned on the path forward.

Treatment

In subsequent sessions, we'll focus on identifying thought and behavior patterns that contribute to your anxiety. Then, we'll focus on learning and practicing effective skills to challenge and change these patterns, helping you address them.

Timeline

Therapy duration can vary based on factors like symptom severity, life stressors, and the level of effort put into the process. We will reassess periodically to ensure progress and adjust the plan as needed to stay on track with your goals.

Therapy Approach

What is CBT?
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is an evidence-based treatment proven effective for a wide range of conditions, including anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), depression, and other mood disorders. Unlike traditional therapeutic approaches, CBT is typically short-term, active, and collaborative. The primary focus is on applying specific, actionable strategies that can reduce distress, alleviate symptoms, and foster lasting progress.

How Does CBT Work?
CBT is grounded in the understanding that thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are interconnected and play a significant role in the development and persistence of anxiety, depression, and OCD. Together, we will:

  • Identify and become more aware of negative thought and behavior patterns
  • Develop skills to respond differently to distressing situations, triggers, and symptoms
  • Confront situations that were previously avoided to reduce anxiety and build confidence in managing concerns independently

The ultimate goal is to create lasting change by developing healthier patterns of thinking and responding to challenges.

Techniques & Approaches

In my practice, I integrate various evidence-based techniques within the CBT framework to tailor treatment to your unique needs. Treatment is customized to meet your specific needs, ensuring an individualized approach that’s most effective for you. Some of the approaches I use include:

Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)

This technique helps reduce avoidance behaviors and allows clients to confront feared situations while learning to manage their anxiety.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

This approach focuses on accepting difficult emotions and committing to actions that align with your values, even in the face of discomfort.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

Especially helpful for emotional regulation and interpersonal difficulties, DBT helps clients build skills to tolerate distress and regulate intense emotions.

Duration of Therapy

The length of therapy depends on your unique needs. Some clients see significant improvement in just a few sessions, while others may benefit from longer-term treatment. Typically:

  • CBT sessions are held weekly for 45-55 minutes.
  • The average treatment duration is between 12-20 sessions, though this can vary depending on factors like symptom severity, life stressors, and your level of commitment to the process.

We will work together to determine the right frequency and length of therapy and will regularly reassess progress to ensure meaningful results.

Tailored Treatment

Home, School & Community Based Sessions

As an out-of-network provider, I have the flexibility to tailor treatment to your unique needs, addressing current challenges and barriers in the context where they occur. We can meet in your home, at school, or in other community settings to apply CBT and ERP strategies to your real-life challenges. This personalized approach helps you make meaningful progress in the environments where you experience difficulties, whether managing anxiety, OCD, or depression.

Specifics for Kids/Teens

Anxiety often intersects with family dynamics, making it essential to equip parents with effective strategies to support their child’s anxiety management. I work closely with parents to keep them informed and involved in the therapy process, adjusting their role based on the child’s age and symptom severity. For younger children or those with significant behavioral challenges, some sessions may focus on parent coaching to better manage anxiety or other behavioral concerns at home.

Collaboration is crucial, especially when anxiety impacts school performance or attendance. I am happy to coordinate with school staff to ensure your child receives comprehensive support in all areas of their life. The ultimate goal is to help your child build the confidence and tools necessary to manage anxiety in both home and school settings.

I am an out-of-network provider, which means I do not accept insurance directly. However, I can provide you with a detailed receipt that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement, depending on your plan. It is recommended that you check with your insurance company beforehand to confirm out-of-network coverage. See my Fees and Policies for more information

I choose not to accept insurance to provide you with more flexibility and control over your treatment. Insurance companies often limit the frequency and type of sessions, which may not align with your clinical needs. By not contracting with insurers, I can offer more personalized care, maintain your privacy, and reduce long-term treatment costs by focusing on effective, evidence-based therapies.
